REDATAM to SPSS
REDATAM is a software designed to distribute and process census microdata. It is produced by ECLAC and was adopted by a large number of Latin American countries to publish data from their censuses. This application is distributed in conjunction with the data and allows users to perform queries and data crossings in aggregate without the need for other statistical packages (SPSS, STATA, R) or greater technical knowledge.
The problem
REDATAM, by design, does not give access to microdata, but allows aggregate queries of data. This is not adequate when you want to do statistical calculations to account for relations between variables: correlations, regressions, clusters and the like. As a consequence, REDATAM is very practical to perform descriptive analysis, and very laborious for other tasks.
